Public Outreach Coordinator

DP Consultants, Inc. is a government and public relations consulting firm with an emphasis on third party coordination and community engagement for major economic development and infrastructure improvement programs. We are currently seeking an experienced Public Outreach Coordinator who will be assigned full time to promote and generate public engagement and stakeholder coordination in support of the DC Water’s DC Clean Rivers Tunnel initiative. The DC Clean Rivers Project is currently constructing a massive underground tunnel system to address stormwater pollution.


Primary Purpose

The Public Outreach Coordinator will provide public outreach and communications management support, working with stakeholders and decision makers, residents, businesses, organizations and other affected and interested parties. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to facilitating meetings (some evenings & weekends required) and working groups, assisting with strategic planning and vision development, and developing educational materials. The position will also require creating and implementing public engagement campaigns.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated competence and proficiency in working closely with technical architectural/engineering/construction management professionals to develop and implement public outreach and communications plans in support of project goals with minimum supervision
  • Strong project and team management skills and experience, including integrated task list development, project monitoring and reporting, quality and resource management
  • Comprehensive organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Extensive interpersonal skills including public speaking and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical competency and the ability to deliver technical information to non-technical audiences and enable their understanding
  • Keen understanding of public outreach requirements for major economic development and infrastructure improvement projects (e.g., transportation, water and sewer, green infrastructure, mixed-use construction, etc.)
  • Awareness of clean water initiatives, sustainability, stormwater control, Green Infrastructure and related environmental issues
  • Extensive experience developing and cultivating strong team engagement and relationships
  • Expert public relations, meetings/events facilitation, and communication skills
  • Proven capabilities in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and other graphics and/or presentation software
  • Proficiency in Adobe Design Suite (preferred)
  • Experience in design of public outreach materials and/or webpage content
  • Ability to refine details and attain a high level of quality control
  • Polished client relations management experience

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering or other related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience or equivalent in Community Outreach/Stakeholder Engagement or Public Relations.
  • Bi-lingual fluency (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
  • Veterans welcomed
